Thoughtful

Every radio station tries to find a few simple words to summarize what they’re trying to do. Some promise “All the Hits” and stick to the Top 40. Others are “Your Oldies Station” or “Today’s Top Country.” Public radio is different.

We’re charged with offering our communities programming that’s worthwhile, and yet not commercially-viable. Not quite enough people need a particular style of music or news enough to attract enough listeners to sell lots of ads. That ad-driven, for-profit model is not as efficient as ours. We offer great shows and ask for direct support without the “middleman” of ratings and commercials.

So, what makes us special? What binds together services as different as news in depth, classical music, jazz, folk, and related contemporary music genres? Our program choices are thoughtful.

We don’t mean to say that other stations aren’t at all thoughtful…the local program director for a network station may think a lot about how they can keep their job by maximizing shareholder returns for their owners back east. It’s just that our choices are more thoughtful in the broader sense of the word. Considerate. Empathetic. Caring.

We hope you’ll be one of those special people who donate to help us care for this community. Take a look at our schedule and see if you don’t agree that something we offer is worthwhile. You may not need it on the radio yourself…or at our particular broadcast time…but you recognize that it is good for your community – and for the next generation – for someone to be thoughtful-enough to offer these shows. Look closely and you’ll likely find HOURS of programming that you’re glad to hear. Or your mom can still hear somewhere on the radio. Or your kids.

We’re a non-profit organization with studio space and back-office services supported by Hutchinson Community College, but most of what we do is…and has to be…powered by thoughtful people like you. Donations are fully tax-deductible and you can direct your dollars to ONLY the programs you value. Please, pledge today.
