In addition to being online 24×7, we hope all four of our extraordinary stations will soon be free and over-the-air via HD Radio technology! We are in the process of tweaking our transmitters to provide these extra digital channels without compromising our traditional FM. Some newer cars are already equipped with HD Radio. The infotainment display will likely show some version of the official HD Radio logo to indicate that our channels are available to you. It’s also possible to purchase a new HD Radio, but you won’t get much help from retailers because unlike satellite radio, there’s no subscription fee, so there’s little financial motivation to sell you an HD Radio!
Even without an HD Radio receiver, there are multiple ways to listen to these stations in digital fidelity in your car. Apple Carplay and Android Auto have versions of the iHeart Radio app and the TuneIn app. You can also pair a phone to your stereo via Bluetooth or just plug in the headphone jack to an aux port and listen through the Radio Kansas App on your phone! It’s pretty easy to enjoy these amazing stations anywhere you get a cellphone signal!
How do I get these stations over the air in digital sound?
Our digital HD Radio signal will reach most Radio Kansas listeners. Next time you purchase a radio, just make sure it has the official HD Radio logo shown above. The easiest (but not the cheapest!) way to get an HD Radio is to choose that stereo package when you buy a new vehicle! We’re told that half of all new cars offer HD Radio as an option. For those of us NOT buying a car this year, see the options below for aftermarket radios. Once you have your HD Radio, you’ll find that other stations offer hidden channels, too, and many of them are commercial-free!
A simple web search for HD Radio will probably bring up many non-HD Radios. Same with a search at Amazon.com. Websites still use the term “HD” to try to say that their radio is high quality. They’re simply not aware that HD Radio is a trademarked term intended only for radios with this new digital technology. Again, look for the logo!
